2021 Toyota Tacoma Towing Capacity and Powertrain Options
Here in Warrenton, OR, we’re no stranger to camping, fishing, and hunting. In fact, many people that get a Toyota Tundra or Toyota Tacoma often ask about the towing capacities and available off-road packages. Which naturally leads to questions about towing capacity.
Here’s how much the 2021 Toyota Tacoma can tow.
Towing Capacity
The 2021 Tacoma towing and payload capacities depend on many things, like drivetrain, engine, cab style, and more. When properly equipped, the 2021 Tacoma can tow up to 6,800lbs; it has a max payload of 1,440 lbs. The 2021 Tacoma has an available Tow Package, too. The star feature of the Tow Package is Trailer-Sway Control. It’s a system that constantly monitors the other systems in your Tacoma in order to dynamically manage engine torque and brake pressure to help you keep your trailer under control.
Powertrain Options
The 2021 Toyota has multiple options for its powertrain. It has two engines to choose from. There’s a 2.7L four-cylinder that produces 159 horsepower and 180 lb-ft of torque. We suspect most people will opt for the 3.5L V6 that pumps out 278 horsepower and 265 lb-ft of torque. Most 2021 Tacoma trims come standard in 4×2, though it can be switched out for a 4×4 drivetrain instead. The TRD Off-Road and TRD Pro both come standard with 4×4. All non-TRD trims have a 6-speed automatic transmission. The TRD Sport, TRD Off-Road, and TRD Pro are available in either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic.
